Dr. Shy

Dr. Daniel Shy is the owner of Starkville Veterinary Hospital and has been with the hospital since 2007. Dr. Shy and his wife, Amanda, are both from Vicksburg, MS. Dr. Shy attended Hinds Community College in Raymond, MS where he received an Associate’s Degree in Arts. He then transferred to Mississippi State University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal and Dairy Science in 2002. He continued his education at Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2006.

Dr. Shy has many professional interests, including diagnostic imaging (especially ultrasound and digital radiography), dentistry, and feline medicine. He also has a particular interest in otology, the study of diseases of the ear, and advanced treatment of ear disease using video otoscope. He is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Mississippi Veterinary Medical Association.

“I truly enjoy the relationships with my clients and their pets,” says Dr. Shy. “Learning as a veterinarian never stops, and it never gets old. It seems like you get to see a new wrinkle-in-case presentation every day. I also have a great tenured team around me!”

Dr. Shy and his wife have two children: a daughter, Marin, and a son, Miller. Marin is currently a Chi Omega at Mississippi State University majoring in finance. Miller is a student-athlete at Starkville Academy. Dr. Shy’s pet family includes two toy poodles named Louie and Lacey (which he doesn’t claim) and Waylon, a Field Type English Cocker Spaniel. Waylon (named after Waylon Jennings) comes to work with Dr. Shy almost every day.

When not busy with his duties as a veterinarian, he enjoys hunting and gamekeeping/land management, and spending time with his family. Dr. Shy is also a member of the Starkville First Baptist Church where he is involved in the men’s ministry.
