Dr. Daniel Shy

Veterinarian

Dr. Daniel Shy is the owner of Starkville Veterinary Hospital, and he has been with the hospital since 2007.

Dr. Daniel Shy is the owner of Starkville Veterinary Hospital and has been with the hospital since 2007. Dr. Shy and his wife, Amanda, are both from Vicksburg, MS. Dr. Shy attended Hinds Community College in Raymond, MS where he received an Associate’s Degree in Arts. He then transferred to Mississippi State University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal and Dairy Science in 2002. He continued his education at Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2006.

Dr. Shy has many professional interests, including diagnostic imaging (especially ultrasound and digital radiography), dentistry, and feline medicine. He also has a particular interest in otology, the study of diseases of the ear, and advanced treatment of ear disease using video otoscope. He is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Mississippi Veterinary Medical Association.

“I truly enjoy the relationships with my clients and their pets,” says Dr. Shy. “Learning as a veterinarian never stops, and it never gets old. It seems like you get to see a new wrinkle in case presentation every day. I also have a great tenured team around me!”

Dr. Shy and his wife have two children: a daughter, Marin, and a son, Miller. Marin is currently a Chi Omega at Mississippi State University majoring in finance. Miller is a student athlete at Starkville Academy. Dr. Shy’s pet family includes two toy poodles named Louie and Lacey (which he doesn’t claim) and Waylon, a Field Type English Cocker Spaniel. Waylon (named after Waylon Jennings) comes to work with Dr. Shy almost every day.

When not busy with his duties as a veterinarian, he enjoys hunting and gamekeeping/land management, and spending time with his family. Dr. Shy is also a member of the Starkville First Baptist Church where he is involved in the mens’ ministry.

Dr. Grace Dewberry

Veterinarian

Dr. Grace Dewberry joined the staff at Starkville Veterinary Hospital in 2023. She is originally from Flowood, but she moved to Starkville in 2015 to attend Mississippi State University and has stayed ever since. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology from Mississippi State University in 2019 and received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Mississippi State College of Veterinary Medicine in 2023.

Dr. Grace Dewberry joined the staff at Starkville Veterinary Hospital in 2023. She is originally from Flowood, but she moved to Starkville in 2015 to attend Mississippi State University and has stayed ever since. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology from Mississippi State University in 2019 and received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Mississippi State College of Veterinary Medicine in 2023. 

Dr. Dewberry has many special interests in the field of veterinary medicine with her favorites including soft tissue surgery, ultrasound, and internal medicine. She also enjoys working with hunting and working dogs and improving on human-animal bond. Additionally, she is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Mississippi Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Dewberry and her husband, Dalton, have two dogs they adore:  Jack, a black lab, and Pal, a Golden Retriever. This past December, Dr. Dewberry and Dalton welcomed a new addition to their family, a daughter named Eliza.  They are loving their time as new parents. Dr. Dewberry’s hobbies include cooking, spending time with family and friends, Mississippi State baseball, and being in the sunshine. Dr. Dewberry is also an active member of Pinelake Church in Starkville.

Cindy McAlpin

Client Patient Director

Client-Patient Director Cynthia McAlpin has worked with clients and their pets at Starkville Veterinary Hospital since 2003. Her responsibilities include discharging patients, sending reminders, conducting follow-ups and checking in patients. She loves working hands-on with pets.

"We treat all pets like they are family," says Cindy. "We have excellent veterinarians and staff that genuinely care for the patients."
 

When she's not at the hospital, Cindy enjoys cooking with friends, decorating, gardening, and spending time with her pets. Her animal companions include three cats, Sammy, Gus, and Sister; and three dogs, Ty, Luke, and Choco.

Ranae Sisk

Office Manager

Ranae Sisk is the Office Manager at Starkville Veterinary Hospital. Having been a member of the Starkville Veterinary Hospital staff for more than 30 years, she is proud of the professional, compassionate care the hospital staff and veterinarians offer to pets. Ranae earned an Associate's Degree from Wood College in Mathiston, Mississippi in 1986, and a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics and Merchandising from Mississippi State University in 1988.

Having been a member of the Starkville Veterinary Hospital staff for more than 30 years, she is proud of the professional, compassionate care the hospital staff and veterinarians offer to pets. Ranae earned an Associate's Degree from Wood College in Mathiston, Mississippi in 1986, and a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics and Merchandising from Mississippi State University in 1988.
 

"I'm very proud of the excellent professional and compassionate care our doctors and staff offer to our clients and their pets," says Ranae. "Our motto: “We care about the pets you love,” is a very true statement."
 

Ranae's hobbies include shopping, interior decorating, baking and singing. She loves spending time with her husband, Stanley, and their son, Jeb. She has a Red Heeler Mix named Lizzie.

Allie Fletcher

Receptionist

Allie Fletcher joined the team at Starkville Veterinary Hospital in August 2016. As the hospital's Receptionist, she is responsible for welcoming clients and their pets to the practice, answering phones, and preparing records. Allie's favorite part of the job is seeing all the different cats and dogs that walk through the hospital's doors.

Allie Fletcher joined the team at Starkville Veterinary Hospital in August 2016. As the hospital's Receptionist, she is responsible for welcoming clients and their pets to the practice, answering phones, and preparing records. Allie's favorite part of the job is seeing all the different cats and dogs that walk through the hospital's doors. Her computer savviness and fun-loving personality make her a great addition to the staff.
 

"I enjoy the people I work with," Allie says. "We all just get along really well. I also just love getting up to interact with animals all day long."
 

At home, Allie has a chocolate lab named Cypress. In her free time, she enjoys going to concerts, crappie fishing, deer hunting, cooking and taking her dogs swimming.

Emily Phillips

Veterinary Assistant

Emily Phillips joined our Starkville Veterinary Hospital family as a veterinary assistant in June 2023.

Emily Phillips joined our Starkville Veterinary Hospital family as a veterinary assistant in June 2023. She moved from Alabama to attend Mississippi State and received her Bachelor of Science in Animal and Dairy Sciences. Her passion for animals is shown in her commitment to ensuring that each animal is happy, healthy, and loved.

When she is not at work, Emily enjoys cooking and playing with her animals. Her furry friends include a Golden Retriever, Kaos, and an orange cat, Henry.

Randa Williams

Veterinary Assistant

Randa is one of our amazing veterinary assistants here at Starkville Veterinary Hospital. She is a recent graduate of Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences. A Mississippi resident all her life, Randa plans to attend Mississippi State’s College of Veterinary Medicine next fall in order to carry on her love of animals as a veterinarian.

Randa is one of our amazing veterinary assistants here at Starkville Veterinary Hospital. She is a recent graduate of Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences. A Mississippi resident all her life, Randa plans to attend Mississippi State’s College of Veterinary Medicine next fall in order to carry on her love of animals as a veterinarian. 

Having been a kennel technician here at SVH prior to becoming a veterinary assistant, Randa is uniquely equipped to ensure that each animal that comes here–whether for boarding or for veterinary care–is comfortable, happy, and healthy. Randa’s dog, Maggie, is her best friend and even accompanies her to work every day! 

Her hobbies outside of work consist of spending time with her family, teaching Maggie new tricks, and learning new recipes. Randa truly enjoys making sure that every animal is well cared for and healthy.
